Diet and physical activity
Healthy diet and regular physical activity sufficient and are the main factors promoting and maintaining good health throughout life.
Unhealthy diets and physical inactivity are two major risk factors for hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, overweight or obesity and major chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer or diabetes.
Overall, 2.7 million deaths annually are attributable to an insufficient intake of fruits and vegetables. Overall, 1.9 million deaths annually are attributable to physical inactivity.
Recognizing that improving diet and promoting physical activity represent a unique opportunity to develop and implement an effective strategy to substantially reduce mortality and burden of disease worldwide, the WHO adopted in May 2004
