Rise in overweight and obese children. Childhood obesity is one of the problems most serious public health XXI century. The problem is worldwide and is increasingly affecting many low-and middle-income, mostly urban. The prevalence has increased at an alarming rate. It is estimated that in 2010 there are 42 million overweight children worldwide, of which about 35 million live in developing countries.

The obese and overweight children tend to remain obese in adulthood and are more likely to develop at younger ages non communicable diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Overweight, obesity and related diseases are largely preventable. Hence, we must give high priority to the prevention of childhood obesity.
