Many women fear that their muscles become too big if you exercise with weights, while others believe that the exercises for muscle development are unsuccessful in the female body.
While it is true that women do not have the same muscle structure as men, can we increase the size of our muscles?
Testosterone and genetics
Testosterone, the male hormone that is also present in lower levels in women, is a component of muscle development.
Women who are interested in bodybuilding and weightlifting for many months without obvious results could get disillusioned and think that they have enough testosterone … However, while testosterone contributes to the development of muscles, not the only factor. Genetics has a lot to do with the results of weight training.
Everyone has a different genetic makeup and that’s why everyone’s body responds differently to exercise. Genetics determines what kind of shape your muscle fibers and their distribution in your body. It also establishes the ratio of testosterone to estrogen (female hormone), distribution of body fat and your body type.
What is your body type?
All women have a certain body type or a combination of different types. The top three ares:
- Mesomorph: they are more muscular bodies and can increase the size of your muscles faster than other types.
- Endomorph: more voluptuous and often need to lose weight to see results from weight training.
- Ectomorphs: they are very thin and generally become stronger when they lift weights regularly, but the results are obvious with respect to the size of your muscles.
Want to look stronger?
If your passion is bodybuilding, you want to see you want to be more muscular or stronger, you will need to lift weights and do resistance. To develop your muscles, you will lift more weight and do fewer repetitions. To increase your endurance, use lighter weights and do more repetitions.
Whatever your goal, the easier to achieve if you understand and accept your body type. Do not feel guilty or compare your body with other women you see in magazines, on the street or in the gym, because they can have a very different to yours.
Pay attention to how you feel the exercise and do not concentrate so much on how your body looks. Enjoy feeling stronger and energized by the exercise and this effect will be reflected in everything you do.
